Summer activities in Kettering enjoyed by all… especially eight-year-old Leon!
Parks, sports and leisure11 October 2021

Kettering’s Market Place was alive once again this summer with fun activities and entertainment that could be enjoyed by all the family, including the Summer Sticker Trail, as well as playschemes and Street Sports programmes across the Kettering area.
The Summer Sticker Trail proved to be a family favourite with over 300 visitors taking part with Leon, aged 8, winning the prize draw and receiving a bag full of prizes and sweet hamper from The Shop which was presented to him by Claire, The Shop owner.
Dad of 8-year-old Summer Trail winner, Leon, said: “We really enjoyed doing the Summer Sticker Trail, Leon wanted to do it again for more sweets. We look forward to taking part again at Christmas. Thank you!”
As well as the Summer Sticker Trail, Saturdays on the Market Place saw lots of faces painted, balloon models made, creative crafts, splashing in the fountains, circus skills workshops and much more.
It is wonderful to see that the activities across the Kettering area were enjoyed by so many and I hope that all the children who attended activities across Kettering and the wider area had a summer to remember. A big congratulations to Leon for winning our fantastic prize.Cllr Helen Howell, North Northamptonshire Council (NNC) Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Sports, Leisure, Culture & Tourism
After all activities had to be cancelled last year, due to the pandemic, it was great that we were able to bring them back this summer. We had such a great response with all the activities being well attended and we are looking forward to next summer already.Cllr Jason Smithers, Leader of NNC
Alongside events in Kettering town centre, summer playschemes took place with 18 shows from Steve the Magician’s Magic show to the Looking Glass Theatre puppet storytelling show in local village halls and community centres. Street Sports focussed on football this summer, with over 200 signing up for weekly sessions at venues in Desborough, Kettering and Burton Latimer.
NNC also wishes to thanks all the shops that participated in the Summer Trails including Kettering Swimming Pool, Legacy Leisure, Kafe Bloc / Deli Bloc, Toy Box, No.1 Horsemarket, Bewiched Coffee, Davis Optometrists, Jamie’s Pet Food Store and The Shop (Sweet shop).
