Refurbished play area opens with a focus on inclusion, nature and play for ages 1-14
Parks and open spaces23 April 2026

A refurbished play area has been officially opened in Corby Old Village by North Northamptonshire Council.
The improved play space has been designed to cater for children aged 1 to 14, with a wide range of modern equipment that encourages imaginative, physical and social play. Accessibility and inclusivity have been central to the redesign, helping to ensure the play area can be enjoyed by as many families as possible.
Accessible picnic tables and seating have been installed alongside a variety of new play equipment including swings, areas for both younger and older children.
As part of the refurbishment, new trees have been planted alongside the play area, which will provide natural shade once established.
Sensory planting has also been incorporated around the patio area, supporting children with different needs and providing tactile, visual and sensory experiences.
Alongside the works completed by North Northamptonshire Council, money raised by Corby Old Village Neighbourhood Association will be used for an additional piece of play equipment later this year.
Play areas are hugely important to communities across North Northamptonshire, and this refurbished space is a great example of a play area that is as inclusive as and accessible as possible.Cllr Ken Harrington, Executive Member for Assets, Waste & Environmental Services at North Northamptonshire Council
By catering for a wide age range, improving accessibility, and incorporating features such as sensory planting and new trees for future natural shade, we are creating a play area that is welcoming and designed for long-term use.
We’re proud to have funded this improvement and I’m sure it will be well-used and enjoyed by local families for many years to come.
Play and recreation is so important for their physical development of the younger residents of North Northamptonshire. Sites like this one, alongside the recently opened new skatepark in Wellingborough show our ongoing commitment to families and communities across the whole of the local area.Cllr Martin Griffiths, Leader of North Northamptonshire Council
