Progress made on Cornerstone roof project as scaffolding and temporary tent installed
14 July 2025

Works on a major project to replace the Grade 2 listed roof have taken a step forward with the installation of the scaffolding and temporary tent to cover the building.
Now the tent and scaffolding has been installed on the library section of the building, the old slates are starting to be removed alongside the installation of scaffolding on the Art Gallery side of the building.
There is more detail on the scaffolding works that have been taking place on the Cornerstone website.
Anyone who has been in Kettering recently will see the tremendous progress that is being made on site and the large tent that has been installed over the building.Cllr Greg Wilcox, North Northamptonshire Council’s Executive Member for Communities
Now the scaffolding and tent is up on site, work is starting under the tent on removing the old slates and the project continues to move forward at pace.
Although work is taking place on site, the library continues to be open in the upper floor of the modern extension offering a full range of services and group activities.
As part of the scaffolding works on the Art Gallery, the war memorial has been temporarily covered to protect it. Once the installation of the scaffolding has been completed, the boards around the war memorial will be removed - it is anticipated that this will be within the next month.
Throughout the works, two viewing areas will be provided to view the plaques against the gallery. Provisions are being put in place for the placing of individual crosses on the plaques for Remembrance commemorations later in the year.
The library remains temporarily relocated in the upper floor of the modern extension of Cornerstone for the foreseeable future and the library team continue to offer a full range of services and group activities.
Further updates on the Cornerstone roof project will be published on the Cornerstone social media pages and website.
