Newly-built apartments to support older people to live independently and with dignity have become available, thanks to North Northamptonshire Council.

The Extra Care scheme, Roman Court, based in Oundle, has been developed in partnership with North Northamptonshire Council and Housing 21, and will open its doors in June 2026. There will be a total of 65 one- and two-bedroom apartments with a range of facilities.

Sixteen of its apartments will be available for shared ownership, and the remaining 49 available to rent. There are 24 one-bedroom apartments, and 41 two-bedroom apartments.

To apply to live at Roman Court, residents need to be 55 years old or over, and have had an assessment of their care and support needs by North Northamptonshire Council. This assessment will determine the level of care and support they may need and will also consider financial circumstances, if they have a housing need and have an active housing application on Keyways.

All allocations of Roman Court will take into consideration a local connection to Oundle and the wider North Northamptonshire area together with the households housing and care needs.

Cllr Martin Griffiths said: “I attended the site early on in this scheme, and it’s brilliant to see the progress that’s been made. Roman Court represents a real investment in helping people stay independent for longer, with the dignity and security they deserve. This development will not only provide high‑quality housing but also create a caring and supportive environment at the heart of the Oundle community. I’m delighted to see this project nearing completion and look forward to welcoming residents later this year.”

Nikki-Leigh Dipper, Regional Extra Care Manager at Housing 21 said: “We are excited to open the doors to our latest Extra Care scheme, Roman Court. Opening in June, this much-needed scheme will benefit people aged 55 and over who want the assurance of on-site support whilst keeping hold of their independence.”
“We are proud to offer space to a local caterer and hairdresser, who will be situated at the scheme, creating a community hub for locals in the area.”

The site, situated next to the new Oundle Walk development on land to the south of St Christopher’s Drive, has been designed to be pet friendly and provide fully accessible facilities for residents and members of the public, such as a cafe/bistro and hair salon. Facilities on site include a resident’s lounge, guest suite, scooter storage, assisted bathroom and communal gardens for residents and their guests to enjoy. There will be an on-site care team and manager.
