North Northamptonshire wide Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing policy to go-live

Following the approval by Executive and Full Council in June, a new North Northamptonshire Council wide policy will go-live on Monday 3 November 2025.

The updated Policy and new North Northamptonshire Council wide Hackney Carriage zone couldn’t take effect until the new by-laws received approval from the Department for Transport, which the council has now received.

A copy of the updated Policy and Hackney Carriage Byelaws can be found on the council’s Licensing pages.

As part of the approval process for the new Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing Policy, North Northamptonshire Council’s Executive and Full Council also requested a further review post-implementation of the new Policy to consider specific matters, including requirements for wheelchair-accessible vehicles, the exceptional age policy, and transitional/grandfather rights.

The post-implementation review will be subject to public consultation, after which, the proposed updated Policy will be determined in accordance with the Council’s constitution.
