North Northamptonshire Council invites Experts by Experience to help shape adult social care services

co-production group of people working together

North Northamptonshire Council is reaching out to members of the community with an interest in co-producing adult social care services provided and commissioned by the council.

Co-production is about professionals and people with lived experience working together as equals to design and improve services. Those who use services, along with their families and carers, are known as Experts by Experience, offering invaluable insights that only come from first-hand knowledge.

Recent co-production activity across the council’s adult social care services, includes development of the Carers’ Strategy, recruitment of staff, and recommissioning services including the Supporting Carers service and the Advocacy service.

This has drawn upon the lived experience of carers of loved ones and family members accessing adult social care services to help services understand what is working well, or not so well, and what can be done to make improvements.

Coinciding with national Co-production Week, 30 June – 4 July 2025; a celebration of working in partnership to improve health and social care services, the council is renewing its call to action for adults across North Northamptonshire with lived experience of accessing adult social care services, or of caring for someone accessing services, to become involved in helping shape services.

The following drop-in sessions have been arranged at venues across North Northamptonshire during the month of July, to enable residents to have a friendly chat about how they can help shape adult social care, through co-production with North Northamptonshire Council:

  • Oundle Library, Glapthorn Road, Oundle, PE8 4JA, Friday 4th July, 10-12pm
  • Wellingborough Library, 7 Pebble Lane, Wellingborough, NN8 1AS, Tuesday 8th July, 2-4pm.
  • Kettering Municipal Offices, Lahnstein Room, Bowling Green Road, Kettering, NN15 7QX, Monday 14th July, 1-3pm.
  • Corby Library, The Corby Cube, George Street, Corby, NN17 1QG, Tuesday 15th July, 1-3pm.
  • Discover Northamptonshire Hub, Rushden Lakes, Rushden, NN10 6FH, Friday 18 July, 10:30am to 1pm.
  • Hermitage House Care Home, Kingfisher Road, Thrapston, NN14 4GN, Tuesday 22nd July, 2-4pm.
  • Irthlingborough Library, High Street, Irthlingborough, NN9 5PU, Wednesday 23rd July, 10-12pm.
Co-production is all about working in partnership as a council with our constituents to shape and improve the services we deliver and commission.

The richness of our community is that constituents come from all backgrounds, resulting in a wealth of expertise through lived experience, whether from accessing social care services or from being a carer of someone who accesses services.

North Northamptonshire Council has benefitted greatly from co-production activities to date, including development of strategy and policy, which have helped services to be the best they can be for all our residents.

I welcome collaboration with many more participants across North Northamptonshire and strongly encourage people with lived experience to register their interest in helping shape the council’s adult social care services and to come along to one of our drop-in sessions to find out more.
Cllr Eddie McDonald, Deputy Leader of North Northamptonshire Council and Executive Member for Adults and Health Partnerships
