North Northamptonshire Council has announced a major new partnership with charge-point operator Connected Kerb to deliver more than 1,500 new electric vehicle (EV) charging sockets across the region. The project is co-funded by Connected Kerb and supported by £2.9 million from the Government’s Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) fund.

Over the next three to five years, the rollout will deliver a threefold expansion of the current network of publicly available chargepoints (around 525 charging sockets), with installations planned across 320 new sites including all 12 towns, more than 20 villages, and at least 20 Council-owned car parks across North Northamptonshire. Fully accessible bays will be provided in Council car parks.

By 2030, the number of sockets will rise to at least 2,000, making EV charging more accessible and reliable for residents, businesses, and visitors, particularly the 30% of households without a private driveway. This major investment will provide confidence in the availability of EV infrastructure to support a shift to EV driving over the coming years, enabling people to charge conveniently and close to home.

Connected Kerb, recently recognised by ZapMap as the Best EV Charging Network 2026 for On-Street and Destination Charging, offers competitive pricing and smart charging technology. This allows drivers to plug in and charge during off-peak times when electricity is cheaper and the grid runs on cleaner power, helping residents save money while reducing carbon emissions.

With Government funding and the support of our delivery partner Connected Kerb, we’re making a practical investment in our local infrastructure that will benefit residents, businesses and visitors across North Northamptonshire for years to come.

Whether you're driving an electric vehicle for work, mobility, or simply for convenience, this rollout will ensure reliable charging is available close to home. We’re focused on delivering value for money, giving people more choice, and ensuring North Northamptonshire is ready for the future.

This investment will help ensure that more people have the option to make the switch to an EV when the time is right for them.

We’re proud to partner with North Northamptonshire Council on one of the most ambitious EV charging programmes in the region. By rolling out over 1,500 new charging sockets, the Council is making sure that EV charging is not just available, but accessible and reliable for everyone - especially households without off-street parking. We’re delighted to bring our experience to the region and support a future-proof network that will help residents, businesses and visitors embrace cleaner, more sustainable transport.Chris Pateman-Jones, CEO at Connected Kerb.

According to the latest data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), one in four new cars registered in June 2025 were battery electric vehicles compared to one in five 12 months previously, highlighting the pace of change. Locally, battery electric vehicle registrations have already surpassed 10,000 and are forecast to rise to over 45,000 by 2030.

The LEVI project forms part of the Council’s wider commitment to supporting cleaner, more sustainable transport and is a key element of the North Northamptonshire Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Strategy (2024–2030).
