Impact of the global IT outage

Your council

19 July 2024

Update - 22 July 2024

All services are now and up and running as normal, with the exception of some printing and photocopying facilities in libraries.

Some services provided by the council have been impacted by the global outage to many Microsoft cloud-based solutions.

This is due to an update to security software provided by a company called Crowdstrike.

This has caused a large number of Windows-based servers to crash globally as reported in the national media.

The council is in the process of putting business continuity arrangements in place and many services are up and running and being provided as normal without impact.

The services that are impacted include:

  • Some Adult Social Care services
  • Blue Badge - Processing applications - new applications are still available via the council’s website.
  • Country Parks - Car Parking Machines - customers are advised to bring cash
  • Libraries - computers services for customers and printing currently affected
  • School Admissions
  • Some online payments are affected too which have been taken offline

Overall, our IT systems are still operational and business continuity arrangements are being put in place for those services affected.

We are all very reliant on IT as this global incident shows. We are working flat out to continue to provide services to our customers. Many of our IT systems are up and running but where we are impacted we are implementing continuity plans. We will be keeping customers informed via our website and social media so please keep an eye on our news section and out social media channels for an update on the situation.Jason Smithers, Leader of North Northamptonshire Council
