Free Under the Sea journal for North Northants youngsters
Leisure and sports08 August 2024
This Summer’s Movement and Explorer Journal, produced by North Northants Leisure, is now available, for free, from North Northamptonshire’s leisure centres and libraries.
Aimed at getting young North Northants residents moving this Summer, the 28-page booklet has an Under the Sea theme and five sections to complete - How Many Sports, Movement Journal, Be Creative, Adventure Time, and brand new for 2024, Design a New Disability Aquatic Sport.
Youngsters who complete the booklet and return it to their local library can collect a certificate and be entered into a prize draw.
Health recommendations say that children should be physically active for at least an hour a day. Usually, during term time, youngsters get most of that activity need met at school. However, it’s also important that they get this daily hour of physical activity during their school holidays too.Councillor Helen Howell, Deputy Leader for North Northamptonshire Council and Executive Member for Sport, Leisure, Culture and Tourism
Getting kids to be active can be difficult, which is one of the reasons the Under the Sea journal was created. It’s packed full of ideas that are easy to follow and will get our young North Northants residents moving during their summer break.
I’m delighted that this activity booklet is now available for free in our leisure facilities and libraries.
Getting physical activity into their day can help school-aged children in lots of ways. As well as improving health and fitness it can:
- develop co-ordination
- strengthen muscles and bones
- make them feel good and improve their mood
- help them sleep better
- help maintain a healthy weight
- improve behaviour, social skills and self-confidence
I am delighted that the Movement and Explorer Journal is back. I know it will be hugely successful in getting our youngest residents moving.Jason Smithers, Leader of North Northamptonshire Council
No doubt it will prove valuable for parents too, giving them some great ideas of how to occupy their children during the long Summer break.
There are also many free or low-cost activities being held across North Northamptonshire during the holidays. I would urge parents to find out what is on offer near them.
