Executive set to discuss youth grant scheme
05 May 2026

North Northamptonshire Council’s Executive will meet next week to review and discuss proposals around a grant scheme aimed at the younger residents of the local area.
A report was due to be discussed by Councillors at the April meeting of the Executive but the item was withdrawn so it could go to the Council’s Corporate Scrutiny Committee.
A revised paper will now be discussed which sets out new recommendations on the way forward. Recommendations still include the development of a Youth Empowerment Grant Scheme utilising £68,000 of funding currently set aside for the Ward Empowerment Fund - something that has been widely supported by Councillors.
It is proposed that the remaining £68,000 is returned to the council’s overall budget.
This recommendation reflects comments made around the quality of applications that might be received should the Ward Empowerment Fund continue with a reduced window of application (as was previously recommended).
The current Empowerment Fund has been underutilised, and it is felt that the remaining funds would be better spent within the council’s overall budget whilst plans move forward for a new Youth Empowerment Grant Scheme.
As a council, we want to make sure we are spending money in the right way. We have identified that the current Ward Empowerment Scheme is underutilised and with this in mind, it is only right that we look at alternatives that fit in with our Corporate Plan.Cllr Graham Cheatley, the council’s Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Finance, Efficiency and Change
The introduction of a new Youth Empowerment Grant Scheme is something that has been well-received by Councillors and was supported by the Corporate Scrutiny Committee.
North Northamptonshire Council’s Executive will meet on Tuesday, 12 May at 10am at the Corby Cube and the papers are now available online. The meeting will be livestreamed on YouTube.
