Executive Members at North Northamptonshire Council will consider the authority’s first dedicated housing strategy at this week’s meeting
Housing11 February 2025

The five-year strategy 2025-2030 sets out exactly what the council needs to deliver to meet the current and future housing needs and ensure all residents have access to a safe and decent home.
It is also designed to make sure the council meets its statutory obligations in the prevention of homelessness and supporting the changing housing needs of older residents.
The document sets out the council’s ambition to meet demand, offer choice, match aspirations, and provide a range of housing and tenures that are affordable for those who wish to live, work and visit North Northamptonshire.
The four main strategic aims are:
- Building new homes across all tenures where people are proud to live
- Preventing homelessness to ensure everyone has access to decent, safe and secure homes
- Improving the quality of the existing housing stock to provide decent, energy efficient and safe homes
- Supporting people to live healthy and independent lives in homes suited to their needs.
The item will be discussed at the Executive Meeting on Thursday 13 February at the Council Chamber, Corby Cube, George Street, Corby.
Local authorities are uniquely placed to take on a wider strategic housing role, due to their delivery and influence of activities such as housing, planning, public realm, transport infrastructure, community safety and economic development.Cllr Mark Rowley, Executive Member for Housing and Communities
These activities and outcomes should be underpinned by a clear strategy that gives the mandate for the way services should be delivered, provided and commissioned and this document does exactly that.
This is North Northamptonshire Council’s first dedicated Housing Strategy and is aligned to a number of our current visions for the area including Big 50, a 25-year initiative aimed to enhance living standards and job prospects for those living and working in the region, and our North Northamptonshire Corporate Plan and vision.Jason Smithers, Leader of North Northamptonshire Council
This draft strategy is also an important step, following the creation of the council through Local Government Reform (LGR), in setting out how the council intends to meet its place shaping and statutory role through housing.
If approved by executive members the draft housing strategy will then be subject to engagement and co-production procedures. It will be shared via the council’s consultation hub and advertised through the council’s social media channels.
Also a series of “in-person” sessions to explore the strategy will also be arranged in order to enable those who are digitally excluded to take part in the consultation.
