08 July 2024

Celebrations will take place to mark a half-century of a popular North Northamptonshire Library being at the heart of the local community.

Wellingborough Library will mark its 50th birthday with a day of fun activities open to the public to share the festivities.

Wellingborough Library 50th Fair will take place on Thursday 11 July and on offer will be local craft stalls, community information stands and refreshments available to all.

Former staff, volunteers, friends, customers and supporters have been invited to come together to share their memories of the library and a visitors book will be available. Displays will also highlight the past 50 years of Wellingborough Library.

The fun starts at 10:00am and runs until 4:00pm.

  • At 11am there will be a performance by Park Junior School Choir
  • At 1pm a celebratory birthday cake will be cut by Cllr Helen Howell, North Northamptonshire Council’s Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Sport, Leisure, Culture and Tourism
  • While at 2pm there will be a performance by All Saints Choir
I’m delighted and honoured to be part of these celebrations which mark 50 glorious years of Wellingborough Library.

Libraries are very much a hub of the local community and have evolved into much more than their primary purpose which is to share books and embed the love of reading to all.

I’m looking forward to hearing the stories from former staff and customers. Here’s to the next 50 years!
Cllr Helen Howell, North Northamptonshire Council’s Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Sport, Leisure, Culture and Tourism
We can be very proud of our Library Service and the love and commitment of the staff and volunteers who work tirelessly day in and day out to deliver this wonderful community asset.

They really make a difference to local people and have been doing over the past few decades.
Jason Smithers, Leader of the Council
