Kettering Swimming pool will close temporarily from 24 August to 6 September.

North Northamptonshire Council is advising customers and residents that Kettering Swimming Pool will be temporarily closed from Monday 24 August to Sunday 6 September. The pool will reopen on Monday 7 September, ready for the term-time schedule which includes school swimming.

The closure is required to allow contractors to undertake essential repair works to resolve a leak in the main pool tank. Investigations have identified that the leak is associated with pipework located behind the pool tank, and repairs will require an area of the poolside to be excavated to enable access.

The works will involve excavation, construction activity and significant noise disruption. This means that a full closure of the pool facility is necessary to ensure the safety of customers, staff and contractors while the repairs are completed.

Whilst the pool is closed, the Council will also carry out additional improvement and maintenance projects:

  • The poolside shower area will be refurbished, significantly enhancing this part of the facility for customers.
  • Other essential maintenance and housekeeping works will also be carried out to help maintain the overall quality, safety and appearance of the centre.

Freedom Leisure, who operate the facility on behalf of North Northamptonshire Council, will be contacting all affected customers directly with further information regarding the temporary closure and any impact on swimming activities, lessons and memberships.  Alternative pools operated by Freedom Leisure will be open during the closure period and include the Nene Centre, Thrapston and the Splash Leisure Pool, Rushden. Other pools are also available across North Northants and more details are available on the council’s website.

Customers with any questions regarding the closure are asked to contact Freedom Leisure by email at [email protected].

  • The gym will remain open throughout the closure period and will continue to operate as normal.
We understand that the temporary closure will be disappointing for our regular swimmers, clubs and other users, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused. However, these essential works are necessary to address a leak affecting the main pool tank and to protect the long-term operation of the pool as a safe, welcoming and high-quality environment for everyone who uses it.

We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding whilst these important works are carried out.
Cllr Brian Benneyworth, Executive Member for Housing, Health and Leisure
