Disabled facilities grant
A disabled facilities grant helps provide disabled adaptations in your home.
Grants from £1,000 to £30,000 are available.
Grants are means tested (financial assessment) on the person with the disability and their partner (if they have one). There is no means test for a child.
Applicants receiving the following benefits are not means tested:
- Income Support
- Income-related Employment Support Allowance
- Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
- Universal Credit
- Guaranteed Pension Credit
- Housing Benefit
- Working Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit with assessed income less than £15,050
An occupational therapy assessment is needed to decide the adaptations required.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- be aged 18 or over (the parent or legal guardian would usually apply if it's a child with a disability)
- be either the owner of the property or a tenant (including licensees) and be able to provide an Owner's Certificate or Tenant's Certificate. This won't necessarily be the disabled person. A landlord can apply on behalf of a disabled tenant
- satisfy a means test unless the application is being made on behalf of a child
If you are a council tenant, you can't apply - further information is available on disabled adaptations for council houses.
Adaptations must be for the benefit of a person who is disabled under the law.
