NN2NZ Green Transition grant

Capital grants between £5,000 and £50,000 are available to help your SME become more resilient and support growth.

The Green Transition grant can support projects that:

  • improvements to increase energy efficiency or reduce emissions and transition to renewable energy sources. This could include investment in new equipment
  • research and develop support for sustainability and green technology projects. This could include research into innovative renewable energy solutions or waste reduction processes for example

Projects

A particular target for round 1 is decarbonisation or green research and development initiatives that contribute to reducing carbon emissions or advancing sustainable practices.

Applications can be made for projects that can start quickly and be delivered with all spend claimed by 28 February 2025.

The grant can support:

  • installation of solar panels
  • energy-efficient equipment upgrades
  • building insulation improvements
  • development of new eco-friendly materials
  • innovative waste reduction processes
  • research into renewable energy solutions

These are examples, this is not an exhaustive list.

The grant cannot support:

  • working capital (e.g. rent payments, hire costs, stock purchases)
  • any private motorised vehicles
  • VAT payments (other than project costs where VAT cannot be recovered from HMRC or for non-VAT registered businesses)
  • paying off debts or refinancing
  • purchase of financial investments
  • any statutory or legislative obligations, duties, or requirements
  • hire purchases and asset finance arrangements
  • 'like-for-like' replacement of obsolete equipment with little or no added value

These grants are funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, which provides £2.6 billion of funding for local investment by March 2025.

The fund aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK investing in communities and place, supporting local business, and people and skills.
