Early Education and Childcare advisers

We aim to work alongside providers working with children from birth to five, and this includes Ofsted registered childminders, day nurseries and pre-schools to help maintain high-quality provision, support continuous improvement, and provide guidance on all aspects of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Your dedicated support

Every childminder, day nursery and pre-school providing care for early years children has an allocated Early Education and Childcare Adviser who is available to offer ongoing guidance, advice and support tailored to the needs of the setting. This includes guidance and support on meeting the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), preparing for Ofsted inspections, safeguarding, quality improvement, inclusion or curriculum development.

In addition to this, we are committed to supporting the ongoing professional development of the early years workforce through a comprehensive annual training programme, regular network events and opportunities to share best practice. Providers also receive regular updates on key developments within the EYFS and the wider early years sector.

Local authority statutory duties

Under current legislation, the Local Authority must secure information, advice and training for early years and childcare providers on:

  • meeting the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
  • supporting the needs of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), as well as vulnerable and disadvantaged children
  • implementing effective safeguarding and child protection practices

This statutory support is provided for:

  • providers registered on the Ofsted Early Years Register that were inspected on or before 9 November 2025 and received an overall effectiveness judgement below Good
  • providers registered on the Ofsted Early Years Register that were inspected on or after 10 November 2025 and received a judgement of Not Met for safeguarding or below the Expected Standard in leadership and governance
  • newly registered providers on the Ofsted Early Years Register that have not yet received their first inspection outcome
  • providers registered on Part A (the compulsory part) of the Ofsted General Childcare Register where Ofsted has identified unmet registration requirements or concerns relating to their activities

Additional support

In addition to our statutory responsibilities, we can provide information, advice and training at a provider's request.

Support may also be offered to settings regardless of their latest Ofsted judgement where there is a demonstrated need for improvement or additional assistance.
