Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE)

SACRE is the body that decides how religious education (RE) is taught in schools.

The content of RE in schools is determined by the local SACRE, which produces the syllabus for RE in both North Northamptonshire and West Northamptonshire.

Representatives

SACRE is made up of representatives from four groups:

  • representatives from Christian denominations (other than the Church of England) and other religious denominations, and non-religious worldviews in North Northamptonshire and West Northamptonshire
  • the Church of England
  • associations representing teachers
    the council
  • co-opted members

SACRE is also responsible for advising schools on matters relating to collective worship. This is dealt with separately and is not part of RE teaching.

SACRE's work

All members are invited to take an active role in meetings by sharing insights about the community they represent and relaying information from SACRE to their colleagues and communities.

We focus on supporting and promoting Religious Education in schools throughout North Northamptonshire and West Northamptonshire.

We welcome new members to join us.
