People in north Northamptonshire have clocked up over 2 million miles on Voi rental e-scooters - the equivalent of going to the moon and back four times.

Since the e-scooter trial was launched in Kettering in December 2020 and then extended across North Northants in early 2021, public hire e-scooters have become an important addition to transport in Corby, Kettering, Wellingborough and Rushden & Higham Ferrers, with just over 48,000 people now signed up to Voi, using them to commute to work and education.

E-scooters are a much greener way to travel and since their introduction in north Northamptonshire have replaced an estimated 600,000 car journeys, clocking up over 2 million miles and reducing CO2 emissions by an estimated 233 tonnes.

The trial has grown in popularity, with more and more people choosing to use scooters for short trips to work, for socialising, to go to the shops, appointments and education.

Since the scheme was launched in 2020 in North Northants, we’ve worked in partnership with the council to deliver an excellent service and expand our operating area so that people can benefit from an easy-to-use and affordable means of transport that is contributing to a cleaner, greener and healthier environment for everyone.
James Bolton, General Manager, Voi UK
We passed the 1 million mark in March 2023, so it is great to hear that the two million mile mark has been passed just over a year later.

This clearly shows that the e-scooter scheme is rising in popularity in North Northants which has such a benefit to the environment, as well as helping reduce the car traffic and making additional work places accessible.

As we mark this milestone, I would like to reassure residents that we work closely and constantly with Voi on improving the scheme and making sure that both e-scooter riders and residents are safe.
Cllr Matt Binley, North Northamptonshire Council’s Executive Member for Highways, Travel and Assets
