Teams at North Northamptonshire Council are working hard on final preparations for the Big Picnic Lunch event that will take place at Wicksteed Park on Sunday 5 June to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee.

The event will take place from 12 noon to 5pm, and alongside live music and entertainment, from 2pm there will be a live stream of the Jubilee Pageant taking place in London.

Performing on the stage between 12 noon and 2pm are The Swingettes, a 1940s vocal trio, John Barker Professional Trumpeter, whilst the afternoon will be hosted by Kezzabelle Ambler, Bard of Northampton and a performance poet.

I am delighted that we can all come together to celebrate Her Majesty’s 70 years of service. I would encourage friends and family from across North Northamptonshire to bring a picnic along to Wicksteed Park and spend the afternoon together whilst enjoying live music, entertainment and the live stream of the fantastic Pageant in London.

The teams have worked extremely hard, alongside Wicksteed Park and the performers, to ensure this event is a success, all we need now is you and some sunny weather.
Cllr Helen Howell, the council’s Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Sport, Leisure, Culture and Tourism
For 70 years, Her Majesty has dedicated her life to our country and the commonwealth, and it is only right that we celebrate this. Alongside our picnic at Wicksteed Park, events will take place across North Northamptonshire and I am sure it will be a weekend to remember.Cllr Jason Smithers, Leader of the council

To celebrate the Platinum Jubilee, events will take places across the Commonwealth as well as closer to home across the four-day weekend, with a Pageant due to take place in Northampton and beacon lighting ceremonies in towns and parishes across the County.

The Big Lunch is an annual event which encourages communities to come together, this year’s will be the official community celebration for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
