Amalgamation of two Rushden schools
Schools and education25 November 2022
At a meeting of the Council’s Executive on November 10, and following a formal Consultation, the decision was made to amalgamate Alfred Street Junior and Tennyson Road Infant Schools.
This is an important decision to support the development of a strong and resilient primary education offer in Rushden, and to give the children and young people who attend the school the best opportunity to achieve and thrive.Cllr Scott Edwards, North Northamptonshire Council’s Executive member for Children, Families, Education and Skills
The decision by the NNC Executive to confirm the amalgamation of Alfred Street Junior School and Tennyson Road Infant School, with effect from 1 September 2023, is welcomed; the new primary school will open on both sites.Chairs of Governors of Alfred Street Junior and Tennyson Road Infant Schools
We believe the amalgamation will have a positive effect on teaching and learning for the children; the staff are starting their preparations for the next academic year in a new school.
The children will automatically join the new school, providing continuity with the staff and their friends. Future admissions will apply as usual with places for September 2023 available.
The Governors of both Alfred Street Junior School and Tennyson Road Infant School are looking forward to working with the Local Authority, staff and the community in what will be a challenging time, as we move forward to preparing and realising the new all age primary school in Rushden for the good and benefit of the children and the community.
