Temporary accommodation
We will offer you temporary accommodation as we help you find a settled home, if according to homelessness law, you are:
- homeless
- eligible for assistance
- in priority need
Accommodation type
This could be in shared accommodation such as an HMO if you are single or self-contained accommodation if you are a family or single person with dependents.
In emergency cases we will sometimes use hotels
Where
We will always try to provide you with temporary accommodation in your preferred area.
This is not always possible, but we will nearly always be able to provide you with temporary accommodation in North Northamptonshire (if it is safe for us to do so).
Agreement
When offered temporary accommodation, you will be asked to sign an accommodation agreement.
We expect you to follow this agreement while living in the accommodation we provide.
All households in temporary accommodation receive regular visits and inspections to make sure that everything is going ok
Responsibilities
While you’re living in temporary accommodation you must pay:
- rent
- gas, electricity and water
- council tax bills.
Depending on the type of accommodation you’re offered, you will likely need to furnish the property too, including white goods
Support
Our Tenancy Support Workers provide tenancy support to our most vulnerable single people living in temporary accommodation.
The Temporary Accommodation team will also provide support to households that need it to:
- source essential furniture items
- complete housing benefit applications
- other support to help you continue with your placement
Suitability
Before offering you temporary accommodation, we will make sure that it is suitable for your household’s needs (in line with the law).
If you turn down a suitable offer, our duty to provide you with accommodation will end, and you’ll need to make your own housing arrangements.
You can ask us to review if the offer is suitable, but only if we’ve accepted a full housing duty to you.
We will always confirm our accommodation offers to you in writing and include any review or appeal rights
