Election for Burton and Broughton Ward, North Northamptonshire Council
Residents of the Burton and Broughton Ward will be able to vote in the by-election taking place on Thursday 10 October 2024.
Notice is hereby given under Section 87(2) of the Local Government Act 1972 that a casual vacancy exists in the office of Councillor for the Burton and Broughton Ward of North Northamptonshire Council. The seat previously held by Councillor Christine Smith-Haynes was declared vacant at a meeting of Full Council on 29 August 2024.
As required by the Local Government Act 1972, the vacancy will be filled by election within 35 working days (computed in accordance with the Act).

Number of Councillors to be elected: One
- An election is to be held for a Councillor for North Northamptonshire Council, Burton and Broughton Ward.
- Forms of nomination for the election for the Ward listed above may be obtained by emailing [email protected] or telephoning 01832 742076 and asking to speak to a member of the elections team. Paper copies may be obtained from the Returning Officer, Municipal Offices, Bowling Green Road, Kettering NN15 7QX. Copies of the nomination paper may also be downloaded.
- The Returning Officer will, at the request of any elector prepare a nomination paper for signature.
- Nomination papers must be delivered by hand between 10am and 4pm to the Returning Officer, Municipal Offices, Bowling Green Road, Kettering, NN15 7QX from the day after publication of this notice (excluding Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays) but no later than 4pm on Friday 13 September 2024. An appointment should be made in advance for the delivery of nomination papers by telephoning 01832 742076 or by emailing [email protected].
- An informal check of nomination papers may be requested prior to formal submission. Nomination papers to be checked informally may be scanned as a pdf file and submitted by email to [email protected] by no later than 4pm on Thursday 12 September 2024. Formal submission of nomination papers must be made by hand as detailed at point 4 above.
- If any election is contested the poll will take place on Thursday 10 October 2024.
- Applications to register to vote must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at the Municipal Offices, Bowling Green Road, Kettering NN15 7QX by 12 midnight on Tuesday 24 September 2024. Apply to register to vote.
- Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes and amendments or cancellations of proxy votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Municipal Offices, Bowling Green Road, Kettering NN15 7QX by 5pm on Wednesday 25 September 2024. Apply for a postal vote.
- Applications for a Voter Authority Certificate or Anonymous Elector’s Document valid for this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Municipal Offices, Bowling Green Road, Kettering, NN15 7QX by 5pm on Wednesday 2 October 2024. Apply for a Voter Authority Certificate.
- New applications to vote by proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Municipal Offices, Bowling Green Road, Kettering NN15 7QX by 5pm on Wednesday 2 October 2024. Apply for a proxy vote.
- Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Municipal Offices, Bowling Green Road, Kettering NN15 7QX by 5pm on Thursday 10 October 2024.
