Schools and education20 July 2023
Final preparations are being put in place for the opening in September of Alfred Lord Tennyson School - the new Rushden primary school.
The opening of the school has come about after formal approval was given to amalgamate Tennyson Road Infant School and Alfred Street Junior School.
Last week both schools have distributed the new school uniform to all pupils which was funded by North Northamptonshire Council as the local authority wanted to support families in the transition to becoming a new school.
The new uniform will be red and will feature the new school logo which will be based on designs created by pupils at the two existing schools.
As we reach the end of the school year, it is exciting that the opening date is getting closer. With final preparations underway I am looking forward to the new school opening its doors to all young people and their families in September”.Cllr Scott Edwards, North Northamptonshire Council’s Executive member for Children, Families, Education and Skills
The Council is committed to continuing to support the development of the new school and ensuring the very best outcomes for all of the pupils who go there.
The Headteacher for the new school will be Mrs Kelly O’Connor, who is the current headteacher of Alfred Street Junior School.
I'm honoured to be appointed as the Headteacher of the new school, Alfred Lord Tennyson and I am excited about our new journey with the children, staff and parents.Mrs O’Connor
There’s lots going on as we make final preparations for our opening in September and I’d like to thank all concerned in the school community for their hard work and commitment.
A new school website is currently being developed for the new school and will be ready for the opening in September.
As outlined in the terms of the amalgamation, Tennyson Road Infant School will close on August 31 and the new school Alfred Lord Tennyson School will open on September 1.
The new school will open on the two existing school sites on September 1 with Nursery, Reception and Years 1 and 2 at the old Tennyson Road site and Years 3 to 6 at the Alfred Street location. Staff, pupils, parents, carers and the wider school community are being kept informed of further developments from now until September.
I’m delighted that the Council has been able to help drive forward some much-needed change. I look forward to the new school opening in September and wish everyone well in this new chapter.Cllr Jason Smithers, Leader of the Council
