This shift could be worked by 1 or 2 assistants sharing the hours.

For all shifts:

  • potential for extra hours to cover for staff holidays and sickness but these can be arranged as requested

About the employer

I am a disabled gentleman in Kettering (wheelchair dependant) who requires help with day to day living in my own home. I am looking for a reliable (or two) flexible and honest persons to join my current team of assistants. Ideally previous experience of care work would be a requisite but also of importance to me is that the applicant has a good sense of humour, a caring nature and is reliable. Paid training in the form of shadow shifts is available.

Main duties

  • personal care and assistance (some manual handling is required)
  • helping me in and out of bed using a hoist or rotor stand - Training will be given
  • preparing meals and drinks and helping me to eat
  • assisting me in the shower / toilet and help with dressing
  • ensuring that I take my medication at the right time
  • domestic work (cleaning, washing, ironing etc)
  • driving me in my own vehicle for shopping, appointments and social occasions

About the person

A contract to provide services is offered, to fulfil the duties of a Personal Assistant to an independent, visually impaired person, with a young outlook on life.

The person contracted should be officially registered as self-employed with HMRC and be responsible for correctly reporting and paying their own income tax and national insurance contributions to HMRC.

Looking for a reliable, caring, respectful, non-judgmental and friendly person who is calm and has a good sense of humour.

You must be able to drive and be comfortable around animals, especially and array of dogs and cats.

You will be assisting with cleaning, appointments, shopping, walking multiple dogs, meal preparation and planning, reading information, completing forms and a whole host of varied tasks in and outside of the home, therefore ensuring that the person can keep their independence whilst living in their own home.

You must have relevant Liability Insurance (proof will be required). You must also need to have a DBS or be willing to undertake one, at your own cost.

You must have further ID and valid references.

You should have experience in the care field, although this is not essential.

You will be resilient, observant and with the ability to follow instructions. You should have good communication skills, with a proven track record of being reliable and punctual and a willingness to go the extra mile.

Training and guidance will be given.

Trust and total confidentiality with respect to all matters is essential.

Main duties

The varied duties when required will include:

  • assisting with the care of the guide dog and the other pets, including help with walking, feeding and cleaning
  • assisting with the basic upkeep and tidying of the garden and outdoor areas
  • helping with all household tasks that require sighted assistance, which will include sewing, ironing, and putting away of laundry - Cleaning and tidying within the house maintaining a habitable, safe environment
  • help with preparing meals, including labelling of food containers and organising the same such as to aid a visually impaired person
  • help with all tasks necessary for the above
  • sighted assistance with setting up and using various equipment within the home and office
  • assistance with all written material, correspondence, completing forms where necessary
  • guiding and being aware of giving verbal information to a visually impaired person about the environment when indoors and out travelling
  • driving me to and from events / venues, medical appointments, vet appointments and shopping trips
  • assistance with correspondence and any other reading and writing tasks, which may be required to support a visually impaired person e.g. reading information on food and cleaning items, signage etc.
  • assist with care of animals and vet trips, as and when required
  • accompanying on walks in the countryside / parks, various places of interest and local, national events, plus accompanying on theatre, cinema concerts and evening classes
  • support to attend meetings and social events where necessary
  • any other task which may reasonably be asked of someone providing the services of a Personal Assistant

Additional information

Personal Assistant support worker to assist a registered blind person to maintain their independence in and out of the home.

Including assisting with the care of cats and dogs so must be comfortable around many animals.

I work with some flexibility so you will be able to plan your own schedule around my support needs when appropriate.

The applicant must be a competent driver with the use of a reliable car. Mileage expenses will be paid for these duties (excluding commute). Local knowledge and access to the use of a SatNav are essential.

The employer is a young intelligent woman living in the NN17 area. The employer is very creative herself and loves the arts. She attended drama school and is also a keen writer. The employer likes animals and has small pets (no pet care of these is involved)

A Personal Assistant (PA) is sought to support her in all aspects of her life, including socialisation, accessing the community, local groups, gym, shopping, cinema and accompanying her on dog walks. You must therefore be comfortable around dogs.

The employer will need their PA to be a good timekeeper, have good communication skills and quite flexible with their hours, on occasion.

The lady has autism, PTSD, OCD and social anxiety. This can make going out a struggle and the PA will need to support with this, as she can be very wary of people and different surroundings.

Main duties

Socialisation - help accessing the community and local groups. For example, gym, cinema, food shopping, dog walking.

Paperwork – help and support with bills and council paperwork. Help and support with organisation. Support with routine and staying.

Medication – to support with ordering and managing prescriptions. To attend and support with any appointments.

  • support in the home as required - On a Sunday you may be required to prepare a Sunday lunch / hot meal and tidy the kitchen afterwards

The Employer is an active lady living in her home in Irthlingborough. She is a mother and a full-time wheelchair user. She has Peripheral Neuropathy, Diabetes, Fibromyalgia and an SPC Catheter.

Main Duties

8.30am Morning Call – 45mins

  • To assist the Employer in getting up, dressed and ready for her day. The Employer can transfer into her wheelchair independently. Making hot drinks and snacks as required.
  • Personal care as required. The Employer is doubly incontinent and has an SPC catheter. You will need to clean the SPC site and assist her to empty her catheter bag and help her change pads. All necessary sterile equipment is provided.
  • Any other task which the Employer may reasonably ask you to do which falls within the scope of the job as a Personal Assistant.

12.00pm Lunch Time Call – 45 mins

  • Assist with making lunch (reaching items that the Employer is unable to retrieve and general assistance etc.). Tidying the kitchen afterwards. Personal care as required.
  • Any other task which the Employer may reasonably ask you to do which falls within the scope of the job as a Personal Assistant.

6.00pm Evening Call – 30 mins

  • To assist Employer in readying herself for bed – general support and assistance as required. Personal care as required.

  • To help her do normal things i.e. help her do some gardening, carry things for her and to help her water her indoor plants etc.

The lunchtime and evening calls do have some flexibility in the timings of the calls. This can be discussed and agreed at interview stage.
