  • Accommodation Concern: Housing, debt and benefits advice
  • Citizens Advice: Provides free and independent energy advice
  • Community Law Service: For anyone at risk of homelessness due to possible eviction or repossession, appointments for advice and on the day court representation for eviction and repossession hearings
  • Energy Saving Trust: Advice on saving money in your home through energy-saving tips and home improvements
  • Fire safety advice: Including advice on candles as well as electric and gas heaters
  • OFGEM energy regulator: Offering advice on switching, tariffs, complaints, smart meters and more
  • National Energy Action: A national organisation that campaigns to end fuel poverty and offers advice
  • Private Sector Housing team: If you are privately renting and have a broken heating system, you should initially contact your landlord and report the issue. If it's not fixed you can report it by contacting us
  • Scope: Charity offering free energy advice to disabled people
  • Simple Energy Advice: Energy advice on how to make your home more energy efficient

Schemes, grants and installers

  • Anglian Water: Support with your water bill
  • Boiler Upgrade Scheme: Government scheme providing grants to encourage property owners to replace existing fossil fuel heating with more efficient, low carbon heating systems including air source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps and, in limited circumstances, biomass boilers
  • Cadent Gas: Free or discounted gas connections for qualifying households
  • Care and Repair Northamptonshire: Assists people 50 years and above, or with a disability to repair homes. 01604 782250
  • Connected for Warmth: Free central heating for those on a low income
  • Disabled Facilities Grants: If someone is disabled and particularly vulnerable to cold or accessible heating controls are needed
  • National Insulation Association: Directory of local insulation installers
  • Priority Register: Extra support to vulnerable people provided by energy companies that can include debt and disconnection support
  • Royal British Legion: Grant scheme for veterans and their families who are struggling to pay energy bills
