Issues with grass cutting, trees, hedges and weeds

Grass and verges

Our Highways team cut and maintain verges along many main roads up to 3 times a year. They also carry out an extra 3 or 4 cuts a year at 'safety hot spot junctions' to make sure they stay clear.

In Kettering, Corby and Wellingborough areas, Grounds Maintenance teams deal with most grass cutting.

Sometimes, town and parish councils take on this work directly and some funding is given to them to allow to do this. This can be in partnership with us or with contractors.

National Highways maintain our trunk roads including the M1, M45, A5, A14, A43 (between the M40 Junction 10 and M1 Junction 15a) and some of the A45 (between Thrapston and the M1 Junction 15).

Helping the environment

Some roads and industrial estates verges are filled with wild-flowers and longer grass to help bees and other insects.

Other verges are selected for wildflowers alongside other bio-diversity enhancing schemes such as tree planting.

Report an issue

In the East Northamptonshire area, town and parish councils have taken on grassing cutting and issues should be reported directly to them – this includes parks, open spaces and play areas.
